“The Gods will come, it is all up to us. What you do is always your choice.”

Jack is the owner of Tala Springs restaurant, something that despite the small amount of inhabitants that the towns has, allows him to live very well and to give his family whatever they want and need. He’s exactly what you would expect from a person like him, the head of the family and the alpha of the pack. He has his rules and he makes everyone in town respect them, he’s not the one to be played with, he’s known for being understanding and yet he’s not the most patient person in the world, get him on his bad side and he’ll make you regret it forever.

To him his family is his everything and he will do anything to protect his pack. He’s especially protective over Emily and Alec, the younger members of the pack, since they are the future of the pack according to him. He treats Emily as if she was another one of his daughters, that’s why she allowed her to live with them under the same roof, taking one of the spare rooms of the house that is occupied by his kids. Alec is his little jewel, he’s very strict with him, always demanding and sometimes it may seem that he’s a disappointment but that’s only because he loves him dearly and knows that he can give more than what he already does. Finding him again after so many years and learning about what had happened hurt him deeply, no one else knows it but he went after the family that had adopted Alec and tortured him for almost ten years and ended up killing them after asking them why they had done it. Jack may be very strict and has his own sense of what’s wrong and right and whenever someone crosses the line and breaks his rules, he has to pay the price and there are no exceptions. The only people that can say have seen that real sensitive side of him are his family despite the fact that he doesn’t let that side of him show up very often. Still he’s always the man his kids will go asking for advice, he knows how to listen and will always find a solution to a problem, not only his kids but also other graced animals in town, making of him a very respected man. However that respect also leads to fear, he’s not the one you want to bother with useless issues or the one you would try to fool.

Jack is also a believer but only in something in particular, he believes in the Creek Legend and knows that it’s real just because unlike some people tend to forget, they are nothing but animals who were born with a gift that should be wasted like some do. That is why it’s so hard to have someone like Matt in the family, as much as he takes care of him, making sure he’s okay, he does hate what he has done to himself, dooming him to a cursed and crazed life. Somehow he hopes that even though it can’t be fixed, that a miracle is going to heal and make him go back being a complete graced animal. For the opposite cases, he just feels pity for his own because he didn’t make that choice but instead could do nothing but accept everything that was given. Jack only hopes that honouring the gods like he does every day and every full moon will give him the so hoped reward of having them coming to Tala Springs and do something to prevent more graced animals to take the same direction as Matt. Just like people fear and respect him, Jack respects and fears the gods, knowing that they can take his gift away from him and his family.

Currently, he’s looking for a new pair that will move to live to Tala Springs with him and his family and become not only a mother to the children he already has but to new ones that would make the pack increase into a very big family. He’s been looking around and he thinks that he may have found that new perfect wolf for him, his soon to be new pair. After the death of the other two, he believes that he has no luck, that why he’s been waiting so long until finding someone who is perfect for him.

“I come from a place where the night lasts for months. Where the sky is dark and the wind bites your bones and the hard truth is that you are always alone.”

Diana is a long way from her original birthplace. She was born in the cold, unforgiving lands of the Scandinavian north, Sweden to be exact. True kingdom of the wolves, graced and un-graced alike, one might think a wolf would be blessed to find a home there, but not Diana. Diana had been unlucky from the day she was born, for rather than the steely greys and whites of arctic circle, she was born jet black. The natural tendency in the animal kingdom is generally to reject individuals exhibiting an unusual characteristic. Particularly when, in a world where the best camouflage was a colour as white as the driven snow, one would stick out like a sore thumb. How could she possibly ever hope to catch any kind of prey if she could not creep up on it? Her mother loved her too much to simply let nature take its course however, and begged her pack to give it time, perhaps she would shed out a different colouring? She was right, as Diana grew older she changed colours… She went from jet to raven-wing black with silver highlights, and the she-wolf had to accept that her daughter could never fit in here. She taught her daughter everything she knew before giving her up to the local ranger, an old graced polar bear who was aware of keeping this mostly human-free kingdom separated from the rest of the world.

The old ranger taught her the importance of his job, the differences between humans, animals and the graced. He taught her that most wolves, the graced and ungraced alike, had been hunter to near extinction, and she developed a hatred towards humans, though she’d never met them. He home-schooled her, as the nearest schools were so far away they would have required her to board which was not an option. It was very lonely and very hard for her growing up, her inner wolf spurred on by a deep desire to be with her own kind. Often she would phase and go wander the lands in search of her old pack, or others… even ungraced companions would do. The old ranger warned her against it numerous times, but she kept insisting on doing so. The benefit was that she learned how to hunt. It took her a long time before she was capable of making her first kill, and while her human form grew mostly normally, her wolf form ended up being rather small, especially compared to the rather large Scandinavian wolves. What she lacked in power, she made up for in speed and intelligence. A good thing too, because by the time she actually did encounter one of her own kind again, she was attacked rather savagely. She narrowly escaped and was absolutely shocked. Diana reasoned that it was simply a bad encounter. But after the same thing happened a couple of times, she had to come to the conclusion that even her kin did not want her. It added salt to the wound of being left by her mother, no matter how much she knew she loved her, and sowed resent in her heart.

The old bear could see that she was growing restless, and though he’d hope she’d take over when he passed away, he was no where near his death bed and sent her to Tala Springs, after telling her about the gods of legend. He knew of the gathering that was taking place there and could feel in his old bones that Brother Moon and Sister Sun had reawakened and calling their children. He made her promise to return when he’d pass, and she was off. She took up a position as a ranger, which suits her knowledge and personality just fine. Diana is very weary of strangers, she doesn’t let people close to her, capable of getting quite aggressive if they get insistent. She avoids the other wolves out of habit, automatically thinking they will want to harm her. She doesn’t know it, but all she wants and needs is love, acceptance and affection.

“Only my family knows me and the rest, are just stupid.”

In such a small town as Tala Springs, there is always a girl guys wants and girls envy, that girl who has everything: the looks, the brain, the family and the money. In this case, aside from the money, this girl is Jane. Her and her older sister Isabelle fit the description but Jane, despite her innocent smile, is the most intelligent person you’re most likely to ever meet in your life. She also happens to be very mean, a total bitch, if she feels like being one. She’s pretty moody but in general, a very happy girl, the kind of person who is able to light up a room with her smile, or just walking in. Jane usually pretends to be a very innocent girl to make people do whatever she wants. People who know her, such as her family, are fully aware of that and never let her fool them. She doesn’t do it on purpose, well, she does, what she never expects is people to react that way and do whatever she asks them to. It always amuses her.

Jane is very playful and as if she were still a pup, loves having fake fights with the rest of the members of the pack, but the only ones that usually agree are her cousins Emily, her half-brother Alec and secretly, sometimes even Johnny. The rest of the pack simply feels annoyed by her childish behavior. Some people in town even think she’s a bit stupid because of her constant giggling, what they don’t know is that she’s the one making fun of them and very few know how, not wanting to actually leave Tala Springs, she’s studying biology and medicine at Princeton University. However, managing to get a medical certification, she studies at home and only heads out to the university to take some exams, getting the maximum grade every single time. Jane is the aspiring new doctor of the pack, something that has been her dream ever since she was a pup. She really wants to help the members of the pack and this is her way of contributing to its wellbeing.

Her relationship towards her family is very simple, she’s completely oblivious to the internal problems within the pack and this includes Matt, Alec and Johnny’s constant fights. It’s not because she doesn’t want to see it, she has simply chosen to ignore it completely. Jane has very strong opinions on things; for instance, as she’s trying to figure out a way to ‘cure’ Matthew and take him back to his original wolf form without any pain, she thinks he’s very stupid for wasting their gift. She’s one of the few graced animals that have firm beliefs on the existence of Brother Moon and Sister Sun and she worships them like the gods they are. She respects them more than anything else. As for Johnny and Alec, as much as she loves her half brother, she thinks they are both being stupid, especially Johnny for provoking Alec, knowing that he can’t really control his temper at times and that he’s very sensitive over the subject of his birth and life prior to arriving to Tala Springs.  Besides her being very opinionated and deciding to ignore her family when according to her they are ‘being stupid’ she loves them dearly and just like Isabelle, she would do anything to protect not only her pack but the graced animals. Proof that unlike Isabelle, Jane accepted Alec from the very first moment, in fact, she was happy to have a younger brother who was so close to her in age.

“I’m a fucking bitch. That’s what people say. What they don’t know is that I care about my family and friend above anything.”

Isabelle, being the eldest of the Reed family, is the beta female alongside her half-brother, Alec. She’s the second in command and people will always do whatever she wants them to. They respect her because even though she’s already twenty-five and has no mate, Isabelle has earned the respect by being a very good beta. She’s strict, yet understanding at the same time, acting as somewhat of a mother to her family and playing a very big influence in her father’s decisions. Isabelle’s wise and even though she might not be as intelligent as her younger sister Jane, she has the gift of being able to get very close to humans, being the one who has better control over her emotions and more capable of behaving like one of them, understanding pretty much everything about their behavior and their rules. Being the eldest of the family was never easy for her, but she accepted that task and took care of Jane when their mother died, of Emily now Matt has been banished and is Johnny’s support, whenever he decides to behave as if he had a family. Both cousins used to be very close but as Johnny pushed away his family, Isabelle wasn’t an exception. When Alec found them, she was reluctant at first and didn’t really accept him, until she heard his story and figured out that it wasn’t Alec’s fault her father had chosen a new mate and is always very protective of him, not liking the way humans treat him.

Isabelle and Jane are somewhat the golden girls of Tala Springs, beautiful, smart and with that wild aura that surrounds all of the graced animals, which seems to draw male humans towards them and most of the time both sisters have a good time pushing them away, not interested in humans at all and not wanting to break to rules of the pack. Isabelle, along with Jane and her best friend Annabelle, run the local clothing store, it’s the one thing she loves and she only wishes she could leave with Annabelle if her friend ever decided to leave Tala Springs. In fact, Izzy, a nickname she hates with a fiery passion, is a model but she’s not capable of leave the pack so she can only do so at a local scale. It’s not the fact that she can’t leave the pack, it’s her life and her family, she has responsibilities and leaving them would go against everything she believes in. Not to mention, she knows how much Emily and Alec need her since her father is very oblivious to some issues the family deals with, especially when it comes to Matt, Emily’s brother.

Being a very strong and determined person, qualities she inherited from both her father and her mother, Isabelle feels very confused by the internal division she’s going through. She loves the town and her family with all of her heart, she would do anything for them, but at the same time she also wants to have a life of her own. Even if it means going against her true nature, she knows that if she ever left, she would regret it her entire life. However, not giving it a shot and leaving for some time would result in the same consequences. What Isabelle doesn’t know is that what she really wants is to have both things and that her pack means more to her than any other dream. Maybe being away from her family for a few months would help her figure that out. Maybe she’s just too used of people looking up to her constantly or coming to her for help, because no matter what, she’s always willing to do so. Underneath the bitchy façade, she’s in fact a very sweet girl.

“I love my family. They are my life. They gave me a life.”

Alec’s story is somewhat of a secret which only his pack is aware of. It’s a very sad story and definitely not one people like to hear about. This has made Alec the person, or wolf, he is. He’s a very strong person, always honest, definitely not afraid of speaking his mind if he has to, even if that might hurt the people he cares about. Alec loves his family, even Johnny, more than anything and he would literally do anything for them. Point is, he’s only related to Jane and Isabelle, his half-sisters but he still considers Matt, Emily and Johnny his family. His father, the alpha of the pack, knows this and there is no other reason why he’s the beta of the pack, the second in command, not simply strong mentally, but physically as well and he usually beats whoever dares to challenge him. Everyone thinks he’s not a violent person, and they are right, but when it comes to having a good fight, he would never say no, because to him, it’s a good way to take out all the anger he keeps inside. Alec’s body, much like most of the graced wolves, is in perfect shape and he has a lot of scars which remain as proof of all the fights he’s had, mainly with Johnny. However, some of them are not. Some of them are simply there to remind him of what his life was like before his father found him.

When Isabelle and Jane’s mother died, Jack, their father, found another couple, Marie, a wonderful white wolf. Marie had a mate though, so she couldn’t go live with Jack. Instead, they both let their human feelings get in the way, thinking that there would be no consequences but soon, Marie’s mate found out and disowned her. Marie took care of Alec until she was shot by some hunters, leaving him alone when he was barely four years old. He was found as a human kid in the middle of the woods and he didn’t have much to worry about hiding what he was, because barely a couple of days after being found, thanks to his golden looks and his bright blue eyes, he was adopted. Then he managed to keep the secret hidden for some time, until his adoptive father found out and locked him in the basement, occasionally visiting him only to beat him up. It wasn’t until he was twelve that he managed to escape and a couple years later, when he was just about to lose his human side, he found himself in Tala Springs. That saved him; Jack soon found out about the whole story and claimed him as his younger son. Everyone accepted him immediately, both Isabelle and Jane were pleased to have a younger brother to take care of and he soon befriended Emily, making the two of them inseparable.

Alec is pretty smart, he didn’t have the possibility to school and his sisters had to teach him how to read and write. He’s a very curious person, despite everything he’s been through, he likes to watch the humans, trying to understand the way they think and behave, finding them very interesting and different from one another in so many ways. The truth is that he’s more of a wolf than anyone else; having taken into account that he almost lost himself. Unlike any other graced animal, he doesn’t have such complex feelings, closer to the human ones. Adding that to the way he behaves sometimes and the simple work he does, the human inhabitants tend to believe he has some kind of mental issue or that he’s plain stupid, and they end up not paying attention to him. Alec doesn’t mind and will always have a smile for everyone. The people who get to know him better, find out he’s a real sweetheart, caring, playful, funny and very innocent. Still he’s not easily manipulated, he has a very strong will and he can be very stubborn.

“Life’s a bitch but I’m not.”

Having a pretty fucked up family hasn’t made Emily change at all and she’s determined not to let it affect her in any possible way. She’s strong, just like her cousins and she doesn’t want to be a victim, instead, she tries to adapt and overcome.  Just because one of her brothers is crazy and the other one is an asshole, even though he really cares about her, doesn’t mean she has to be a bitch. Her parents being dead isn’t a big issue for her either, she adores her cousins and getting to live with them is the best thing that could have ever happened to her. Not only does she gets the protection of the alpha of the pack, but she has her role-models right there: Isabelle with the way she’s able to connect with humans and how she is so motherly and caring and Jane, because of her intelligence and her entirely different points of view. Emily wants to learn from them and follow into Jane’s footsteps by becoming a nurse some day, someone who will be able to take care of the pack. There is no point in denying it, but she’s pretty ambitious and one of her dreams is to become the alpha female of Tala Springs’ pack. She knows that role should belong to Isabelle and her mate but if she has to leave her family for a new pack she would. She doesn’t feel rejected, she’s just pretty ambitious.

There is also someone else in her life whom she loves dearly, more than her own brothers and more than her cousins and that happens to be Alec. Ever since he arrived to town, they became best friends. Emily’s barely one year younger than him, but if it wasn’t because of that, they would almost be like twins. Always spending time together when she’s not too busy studying or Alec isn’t working. He’s special and she’s able to tell why, he’s somewhat the opposite of her brother Matt and of course hates the fact that Johnny is trying to provoke him constantly, making her feel torn on where she should lay her support. At this point, it’s pretty obvious that beside considering him as her own brother, she has a very silly crush on him, simply because no matter what, he always has a smile for everyone. For her. No wonder she gets so angry every time she heard someone calling him retarded or insulting him.

Leaving her ambition aside, Emily is a sweetheart. She’s a dreamer and she loves spending time in the woods as either a human or a wolf, meaning she really loved being a graced wolf and she understands, unlike her brother, that being able to change and become a human for the day is a gift which he has to use in his favor. Usually, people are a bit taken aback by her attitude, despite being so sweet, she’s also a bit of a dork, always speaking very loudly with animated gestures and above everything else, being plain honest. Emily doesn’t understand how some people don’t want to hear the truth but she will always say what on her mind and be honest no matter what. What she doesn’t get is how the simple truth, something that avoids future discussions and further lies, can make so many people feel uncomfortable, especially the humans. Even though she doesn’t like to scare people away from her by making them feel uncomfortable, she’s not going to change her ways because just as she’s straightforward, she just thinks that it is the right thing to do. Emily has established her own rules in the game and it’s her way to go on.

“I was stupid and now I’ve lost everything I had.”

Matthew is one of the dark secrets of Tala Springs, he’s not only the shame of the Reed family but of the pack he used to belong to and of the graced animals. Point is Matt can’t complain about the life he has had. He had a happy childhood, surrounded by a family who loved him, with pups and kids of his age to play with. His parents gave him everything he asked for and he would always be smiling and giggling. Emily would always play with him and Johnny would be always watching over them whenever his parents were too busy. But there had always been something wrong with him and Johnny was the only one who seemed to notice how his brother was changing and how there was something weird going on with him. He was the only one who noticed how every full moon and every night, he would resist the change and the urge to hunt, he would always resist his true nature during the night. During the day, he would switch between his human and his wolf self without any problem, he would go play and hunt as a pup but the nights were like a stressful nightmare for both him and Johnny.

Never liking what he was, never accepting it, Matt always felt as if he was neither a wolf nor a human, trapped between two opposite worlds and loving one more than the other. It only happened that he loved the wrong one, the one that he didn’t actually belong to: the human world. The feelings, the way they behaved and interacted, he wanted everything. Matt didn’t want to belong to a pack, to stand someone giving him orders, even though he seemed to accept them. He never understood that instead of being trapped between two worlds, he was a wolf who had been graced with being able to take a human form to understand the humans and be able to live among them, teaching them to respect the nature. He always thought that he was some sort of hybrid and that he had the chance to make a choice.

Not listening to the legends and to his own brother, who warned him about the consequences of what he was trying to do, after the death of his parents, he found himself struggling and wanting to be a human more than anything. That was his doom. He fought his animal nature and soon enough, when he was eighteen, he found that he wasn’t able to turn into a wolf at will and that only during the nights of the full moon, his body would struggle with to keep his human form, yet try to switch to the wolf one, becoming what would be called a werewolf. Matt, as the years passed, lost his sanity completely like any were-animal.  Unstable at the least, he has anger issues, constant mood changes and hunted by paranoia. He became the shame of the pack and because of the choice he had made and therefor dishonoring the gift he had received, he was banned from the pack and no graced animals would even acknowledge his existence. He is not allowed to leave Tala Springs, he wouldn’t do it even if he could, since the pack has still an eye on him considering he’s a threat towards them. If, for some reason, someone ever saw him during the nights of full moon, their secret would be revealed and soon the hunt would start. No one, not even humans, usually talk to him, mainly because they think he’s crazy and this only leaves Emily, his younger sister as the one who takes care of him from time to time. Right now Matt only wishes he could go back to what he was, finally discovering that he had been wrong all the time and that he should have listened to his brother.

“This is my place, this is my life and we’re better than them. I’m better than anyone else.”

Here is Johnny Reed and it’s a name you should never forget or he’ll make you regret it. Everyone in Tala Springs knows his name and they hate it as much as they fear it, because Johnny is dangerous. He doesn’t mind stepping over people to get whatever he wants, using them in the process. You may think there is a sweet and actually caring guy underneath all the jerkiness, but there isn’t, he only cares about Emily. He’s a proper asshole and he doesn’t give a fuck about what anyone else thinks about it. He thinks that he’s better than anyone else anyway. As soon as he could, he quit the school and started working on what would be his passion, as much as he loves being a wolf, he also loves cars and motorcycles, so he started working in a small garage in town and his work now usually requires him to go to Tampa a couple of days a week, having now collected enough money to start his own business, yet he’s somewhat reluctant. Even though work seems to be good for him, he’s a trouble maker and you could say that he would have sex with every girl in town if it wasn’t because of hid loathe towards humans. Still, Johnny respects the wishes of the pack, even if he defies the alpha of the pack everytime he gets the chance to do so, which, unfortunately, is almost all of the time. The only thing which explains his stupid behavior, is the fact that he hates his cousin, Alec, they don’t have a good relationship, they’re always fighting. Johnny knows very well how to make his cousin’s patience wear thin, who also happens to be the beta of the pack and the son of the alpha. This only gives him more reasons to hate Alec, not to mention that despite the countless number of fights and the scars he has to prove them, most of the times, he ends up losing and being humiliated by his cousin, who isn’t only stronger but younger. Then, again, there might be another reason to explain this behaviour. And that is Matt.

Johnny was used to playing the big brother role until he couldn’t stand Matt’s bullshit anymore, he couldn’t breathe, he needed air, his own espace and his own life. He was tired of taking care of him, of warning him, of having to get him out of trouble. He really does love his siblings, Emily and Matt, but he just couldn’t deal with it anymore. He had no more energy. He gave up and moved to live on his own when he was about twenty, aware of the tragic consequences that this could have on Matt. Everything happened as he had predicted and he not only hates himself for what has happened to Matt, but he loathes his own brother, because of the crazy monster he has turned out to be, the shame of his family, the shame of the pack. They didn’t have a hard life, no reasons to turn out being problematic children, their uncle gave them everything they needed and they were happy with it. They even had a happy childhood and Johnny doesn’t understand how his brother ended up turning into a monster, denying his nature and damning himself to live a cursed life. Now he refuses to think of Matt as his brother. Having only Emily to take care of, Johnny convinced her to move in with their cousins, Isabelle and Jane, even if that implies that she has to live with Alec, leaving him alone.
